Let's say you have two items for sale: Item A is $20, and item B is regularly $30 but is on sale for $20. You will sell more of item B every time even though both items are the same price.

Why?

Because people like a deal. You don't even have to be a penny pincher to enjoy saving money.

FOMO is your best friend when you're running a sale. Limited quantities and limited time create a sense of urgency and encourage potential customers to try your products or services.

People don't want to miss out on a good deal!

To set up a discount code in Squarespace, go to Selling -> Discounts -> Add Discount. You can create a discount code that deducts a certain percentage or amount off of the total, or you can offer free shipping.

Be sure to utilize the announcement bar to promote the sale (the banner at the top of your website). This is the first thing people will see when they land on your website since it is prominently displayed at the top.

PRO TIP: Use an emoji in the announcement bar to increase the click rate.

2. IMPROVE YOUR ONLINE PRESENCE

A strong online presence is essential for attracting new business. Here's some ways to ensure people are landing on your website.

People's perception of a company's website significantly influences how they view the brand itself. A poorly designed website (confusing navigation, outdated content, and bad design) can lead visitors to perceive the company as unprofessional and unreliable.

On the other hand, a well-designed, user-friendly website instills confidence and portrays the brand as credible and high-quality, ultimately enhancing its reputation and attracting more customers.

Email marketing is a cost-effective way to reach potential customers and nurture existing relationships, and is the BEST way to grow your business. Sure, you can pay for advertising or promote your business on social media, but email marketing is where it's at.

First you need to build an email list through your website. How do you build an email list? By offering free, valuable content with a lead magnet.

This could be a PDF on a topic that aligns with your brand, a pre-recorded webinar, or a discount code off their first purchase.

A "sign up for our newsletter" form will NOT grow your business. Give them something of value, and watch your email list grow.

Once you create your lead magnet, you'll need to create the sign up form on your website.

Then once you have your email list, you can start to send regular newsletters, promotional offers, and valuable content to keep your audience engaged and informed.

You'll also need to set up a workflow to automate emails (the initial email with the lead magnet, plus any other drip campaign emails).

4. PARTNER WITH OTHER BUSINESSES

Collaborating with similar businesses can be a highly effective strategy for generating new business. It's a great way to expand your audience and increase potential sales. Let's say you paint decadent paintings on canvas... maybe you partner with interior designers who are looking for paintings for their clients. Or maybe you're a baker that teams up with a local coffee shop.

There's several ways to partner with another business:

  • Offer package deals: Bundle your product or service with another business for clients to purchase at a discount. Ex: gym membership + spa treatment

  • Referral program: Make an agreement with the other business to get a commission if you refer someone and they make a sale. Affiliate partnerships are very popular online these days.

  • Collaborate on content: Write a guest blog post on the other company's blog or host a webinar together to leverage each other's expertise and audience. Ex: a webinar cohosted by a web designer and copywriter.

By forming partnerships, you can reach a broader audience and offer combined services or products that add value to both parties.

This is one of my favorite ways to create new business because you quickly have access to a broader audience.

Here's some ways to set up loyalty programs:

  • Punch card program: If you're old school like me, then you'll love this option. Customers receive a punch or stamp for each purchase, and after a certain number of punches, they get a free item or discount.

  • Referral program: My best clients come from referrals. Don't snooze on this one!! Incentivize clients to refer you to others by offering a reward (a discount, cash, etc) when someone they referred books your service.

Happy customers are more likely to recommend your business to others, which leads to more business opportunities. They can be one of your most powerful resources to create new business. Plus, loyalty programs not only attract new business, but they retain existing customers.
